| Program goals The purpose of Musicology Doctoral Programme is to form an independent musicology researcher, previously completed basic schooling; to give an opportunity to specialize in some confined musicology field and prepare/qualify scientist-lecturers for the EAMT, but also for applied higher educational institutions pertained to music. As the academic road to education with doctoral degree ends, for post-graduate studies there are different international post-doctoral programmes that offer research scholarships for work in world´s centres of sciences. |
| Learning outcomes of program Upon completing the program and defending the doctoral degree, the student will be able to: 1. Plan and conduct research independently, raise issues and find appropriate methods and solutions for solving them. 2. Instruct and supervise higher school students of musicology, the student knows the organization and financing of scientic activities in Estonia. 3. Display wide and systematic knowledge of musicology in general and relevant knowledge about the specialized field in question. 4. Understand the role of neighboring disciplines related to the given field of musicological specialization and the methods they use, adapt and develop these methods. 5. Act independently in an international study or work environment and participate in research projects that call for leadership and team skills, innovative thinking and capability to make strategically important decisions. 6. Perceive the impact of one's reasearch work, analyze social norms and relations and respond to them, as well as take action for change if necessary. 7. Present issues related to musicology in general, one's field of specialization, and given project, in both written and verbal form, to both an audience of specialists and wider public, and participate in various kinds of discussions, in both native language and a foreign language important for the given field of specialization. 8. Publish research papers in internationally acclaimed journals, conferences and other refereed venues. 9. Detect and address various shortcomings in one's knowedge and skills, and engage in self-training. |
| The content of study program The curriculum consists of two components: doctoral thesis and doctoral courses.
