Aim of the subject:
Aim of the course is to create an opportunity for foreign students to more effectively assimilate into Estonian society and cultural space. In order to fulfill this goal, the learning of the Estonian language is continued, the knowledge of vocabulary and language structures is expanded. Vocabulary areas: me and world; my studies; food; seasons and weather; numbers and date and time; city and place. The aim is to polish skills in using Estonian language A1 level.
Content: Practical language exercises. Traditional language learning methods are used (through chapters 11-20 of Tuldava's "Estonian textbook") as well as newer techniques (e.g. the environment keeleklikk for oral language acquisition). Focus is on oral everyday language. Learning outcomes:
Student:
• can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
• can introduce herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where she lives, people she knows, and things she has.
• can interact with other people in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
• can describe the location of his home and give simple directions.
• can talk about his hobbies and interests and makes plans for fun activities with friends or colleagues.
• can complete basic transactions at a hotel, including checking in and checking out.
Assessment:
Pass/ fail exam, A1 Estonian language test. Student participation (80%) in lectures, performing the given tasks and positive results are taken into account.
Assessment criteria:
Written test of the level of language skills (reading, listening, writing)
Oral level test (conversation on one of the pre-agreed topics)
