Aim of the subject:
Aim of the course is to design, develop and deepen the students' cultural and communicative competence and willingness to work in multicultural environment.
The aim is to polish their skills in using the English language level B2 and identify problems related to the speciality in a foreign language.
Content: Language learning is based on the CEFR content (B2) – development of all four foreign language dimensions (listening, reading, speaking, writing). Topics related to student’s person and profession, native country and cultural history of the foreign language.
Independent work: oral and written homework; developing one’s opinion on the basis of reading texts and preparation of the conversation topics; writing a letter; preparation of the written text and its oral presentation to fellow students. Learning outcomes:
Student
- understands, distinguishes and interprets the texts related to his personality and to his field as well as the language and culture;
- understands the media and films;
- has acquired the basic music-related vocabulary;
- selects the material and uses his linguistic knowledge in the preparation of the professional summary;
- submits a brief professional report;
- uses grammatically correct language structures to express an opinion in writing and orally.
Assessment:
I semester: pass/fail exam.
Student participation (80%) in lectures, performance of the given tasks and positive test results are taken into account.
II semester: examination.
Examination mark shall consist of:
- Written test results;
- Preparation and submission of a professional summary;
- A conversation based on a professional text and introduction of one’s musical instrument;
- Participation in lectures at least 80%.
Assessment criteria:
I semester: pass/fail.

II semester:
"excellent (5)" – 90-100 %, all parts of the examination show excellent knowledge, errors do not occur.
"very good (4)"- 80-90 %, very good knowledge, minor errors may occur.
"good(3)"- 70-80 %, good knowledge, mistakes occur.
"satisfactory (2)"- 60-70%, satisfactory knowledge, understandable speech, sufficient vocabulary.
"sufficient (1)"-50-60%, speech is poorly understood, the vocabulary is limited, many mistakes.
"insufficient (0)" – less than 50%, exam is not passed.
