Aim of the subject:
The aim of the thesis is to help student understand, interpret and describe his/her activities in the field of cultural management and creative industries. The aim of the work is to provide student in cultural enterpreneurship with an experience of composing and writing a research paper, develop their ciritical thinking and ability to use the materials needed for composing that work.
Content: Thesis is an independent applied and written research. In the framework of the organizational-theoretical thesis, the student participates in the organization of a specific cultural project (project, service, product, etc.) together with the practical implementation of the service, organises an event or tests a product. The thesis is a study that creates an application with practical implementation and testing of the result. The practical part is accompanied by a written part, which is an analytical writing, which purpose is to create a broader context of the practical part (event/product/service), to systematize and analyze information and experience related to the practical part. The student examines theoretical or applied problems in creative entrepreneurship in the final thesis, conducts research and provides reasonable solutions to problems. In the work the student raises a problem or research question, opens up literature and materials concerning it and offers a solution to the problem through empirical research.
The project and study will be discussed at 4 seminars during the autumn semester.
The thesis is carried out under the supervision of the lecturer.
The finalization of the thesis must comply with the instructions “Requirements and formalization of written work for students of EAMT”. Learning outcomes:
A student who has passed the subject is able to:
- conduct or analyze a cultural project, design and develop a cultural service or product;
- analyze a specific empirical example from the perspective of academic management of cultural management or entrepreneurship;
- analyze the tendencies of cultural entrepreneurship and orientate in the professional landscape of culture;
- is able to analyze the application possibilities of his/her specialty in practice of culture management or entrepreneurship;
- is capable of academic expression.
Assessment:
A prerequisite for admission to the thesis is participation in 75% of the graduation theses and submission of the thesis to the supervisor and the responsible lecturers. The deadline for submitting the work to the supervisor and the responsible lecturers is determined in the first seminar.
The initial assessment of the completed graduation thesis is carried out by a supervisor lecturer who assesses whether the student's thesis is ready for protection or not. Authorization is approved by the supervisor's lecturer with a signature.
Graduates will -
- the relevance, fluency and connection of the organized cultural project, service or product to the student's specialty;
- the clarity and rationale for defining the research problem to be solved and the research questions, the suitability of the theoretical approaches chosen to address and solve the research problem by addressing the research problem;
- relevance, timeliness and interpretation of the sources cited;
- adequacy of the presentation of selected research methods and their suitability to achieve the set goal: whether the chosen methods (quantitative or qualitative) provide an opportunity to answer the research question;
- ability to use data collection methods and techniques;
- relevance and adequacy of the empirical material / data used to solve the research question;
- quality of implementation: ability to analyze collected data; linking the analysis results to the theoretical starting points of the research and assessment of the chosen method;
- conformity of the results of the work with the set objective and the research questions: the correlation of conclusions and suggestions with the performed research and analysis;
- correspondence of the written work with the current requirements (“Requirements and formalities of written work of students of Estonian Academy of Music and Theater”, use of language; correctness of reference;
- the relevance and comprehensibility of the review of the defense, the clarity of answering questions from the Commission and those present.
Assesment criterias:
- conducting a cultural organization or business project (service or product) - 30%
- clarity of the topic and problem, practical value in use in student’s speciality - 15%
- knowledge of background literature and sources, sufficient research input, appropriateness and quality of the research methods used, smooth presentation of text and logical development of ideas, structure of the content of the thesis, persuasiveness of conclusions - 40%
- proper academic formatting, the relevance and comprehensibility of the review of the defense, the clarity of answering questions from the Commission - 15%

E - Poor – topical problem setting,
- a brief knowledge of background literatuure,
